Twice a year, we like to get back to the basics, step outside our comfort zone, and shed the traditions and habits that can make church so routine we don't always recognize the significance of why we do what we do. To acheive this goal, we take a break from meeting as one congregation in our Church building and instead meet in individual homes across Stamford, Greenwich, and Norwalk.
On Community Sundays, groups of 10 to 20 people meet for home worship, just like the believers in the early church, with singing, a study in the Word, communion, testimonies, and a potluck lunch.
We have a special oceanside service each September at Cove Island, here in Stamford. Beginning with some get-to-know-each-other activities and ending with a delicious picnic lunch, our beach service is one everyone at Grace looks forward to all year long.
Similar to a regular Sunday morning service, we begin with songs of worship and a message from our Pastor. Time is allowed for those who will be baptized to share their testimonies. As a group, we walk down to the shore and celebrate this public declaration of faith: being buried under the waves and raised again to new life, in remembrance of how Christ was buried and raised.
